Amimoni

“Amimoni” is the Panhellenic Association of Parents, Guardians and Friends of People with Visual Impairment and Additional Disabilities.

Founded in 1993 in Athens, it is N.P.I.D. and is managed by a 7-member Board of Directors.

It is an Association specially recognized as charitable by the Region of Attica (Law 1111/72) and certified as a non-profit social care service provider by the Ministry of Labour, Social Security & Social Solidarity.

It operates mainly in the Attica region and through the Early Intervention program provides services throughout Greece.

Our beneficiaries are children and adults with vision impairments (either total or partial loss of vision) and additional disabilities such as:

We have already served more than 500 families, providing education, therapy, counseling and support.

Our goal is to achieve the greatest possible independence of each person in their daily life.

It has been operating since 2004, it is aimed at infants and children from 0 to 6 years old and is provided at each child’s home in close cooperation with the family environment. Every year it serves over 40 families. The goal is the early assessment and utilization of the child’s potential, but also the support and guidance of the parents.

It is the first day care center in Greece, which serves 42 people with visual impairments and additional disabilities every day from Monday to Friday and has been operating since 1995 in Elliniko. The purpose of the Center is the cultivation of daily life skills, the encouragement of self-service, the practice of orientation, and above all the highlighting and full utilization of each person’s potential.

In a house in Chalandri, the only introduction program in Semi-Autonomous Living, for people with visual impairments and additional disabilities, has been operating in Greece since March of 1996. It operates from Friday to Monday morning, serving 5 beneficiaries per week and aims at lifelong training in everyday skills, as well as improving the quality of life of the trainees.

It is the first and only Assisted Living Residence in Greece, for people with this combination of disabilities and it was a lifelong dream for the parents of these children, from the first moment the organization was founded. It is housed in a house in Pikermi, donated by the Lilian Voudouri Foundation and has been operating since August 2012. It hosts 7 people and its purpose is a lifelong stay in a warm and family environment.

In 2006, Amimoni supported the initiative of the establishment of the Association of Parents of Children with Blindness and Additional Disabilities, in Thessaloniki. Subsequently, we actively contributed with training, consulting and supervision to the establishment of the Association’s Day Center in Kalamaria Thessaloniki, in 2013. Today, the Association continues its work under the name “Syzoi”.
